From the Executive Director…
Are you finding yourself with a little more time on your hands (and feet) than you are used to?
Are you suffering from dance withdrawal symptoms?
Are you wondering how to support nonprofit arts groups like the Folk Arts Center of New England, groups who have had to cancel their programming and, in the process, eliminated a critical income stream to support the organization?
Ahmet Luleci
Have we got an opportunity for you!
Ahmet Lüleci is donating a Turkish Dance Workshop – to be conducted in the comfort of your own home!
On Saturday afternoon, March 28, from 11am – 1pm PDT (2-4pm EDT), Ahmet will appear live via Zoom and regale us with two classes (with a short break in between). The suggested donation is $10, but of course anything above that would be gratefully accepted and most appreciated.
On the Folk Art Center’s Special Events webpage, there are details about what to do to in preparation for Saturday’s workshop: how to make your donation, and how to install Zoom on the device of your choice.
Andrew Carnie, who has an amazing website for dance instructions and links to dance resources, is putting instructional videos up for his for-credit University class which has moved entirely online.
You can see the videos he’s done so far here.
As of March 25, 2020, these are the dance videos:
Sherry Cochran of lifebalkandancers.com is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
Sherry ran a test session on Zoom last night and will start running a weekly session of Friday Night L.I.F.E. starting this Friday. They are sharing the evening with Kypseli Greek dancing, as both of their sessions run regularly on Fridays. Friday Night L.I.F.E. will run from 8-9:15 pm and Kypseli will start at 9:30 pm. They might add Facebook Live down the road.
The dancing and music, along with chatting with friends, is very therapeutic.

From Ahmet Luleci:
Join me on Saturday afternoon, March 28, in my first-ever virtual Turkish dance workshops! I’ll be teaching live on Zoom, and all money collected will go to the Folk Arts Center of New England. For more information and to sign up, email gro.enocaf@caf. The suggested donation is $10, but of course anything more would be wonderful.
I’m teaching from 2:00 – 2:40 and again from 3:00 – 3:40 EST. (That is 11am and noon in Pacific Time)
I hope to see you on Saturday, it’s going to be a lot of fun!
Virtual Dance Classes with Ira Weisburd on Facebook Live!
I participated this evening in his Israeli dance class – it was great! I didn’t know most of the dances, but they were not too difficult and Ira is, of course, a most amazing instructor and talked through the dances to make them easier to pick up. He also taught a few dances in detail.
Israeli Dancing Virtual Classes – Every Monday 4pm PT – live on Facebook
Line Dance Class – Every Tuesday 7:30am PT – live on Facebook (that’s right – very early in the morning – not so bad in Florida)
Balkan Dancing coming soon!
You DO NOT have to be a Facebook User or Facebook Friend to tune in and participate in the class. Simply click on https://www.facebook.com/dancewithira or copy and paste the link into your browser. When you become a “follower” on Ira’s page, you will get an automatic alert when Ira goes “Live”.
From Ira’s message:
To have the best virtual dance experience, please prepare the following in advance. Find an area or clear an area in your home which is at least 12 feet […]
Stacy Rose is planning a folk dance session every Thursday evening 7pm PDT on Facebook Live.
I enjoyed participating in much of last Thursday’s dance. Find it here on Facebook!
