Chicago SummerDance in Place on YouTube

An at-home version of this Chicago summertime tradition is on YouTube. Presented by DCASE with the Chicago Park District, the reimagined series was filmed in Millennium Park and at Chicago Park district locations, featuring skyline views and iconic imagery.

Following the traditional SummerDance model, each program starts with a 30-minute dance lesson, followed by 60 minutes of music performed by local artists. Dance and music styles are Line Dance (copyright issues have blocked this video in Canada), Cumbia, Swing, Bollywood & Bhangra, Salsa, and House.

All programs can be viewed on the Chicago DCASE site here.

Scandinavian Dancers of Vancouver “Virtual” Dance – August 12

On Wednesday, August 12 at 7:30 pm PT, Scandinavian Dancer of Vancouver will hold a Zoom session.  Anyone interested in peeking in or participating is very welcome.  Just click on this link Virtual Scandinavian Dance and we’ll send the Zoom URL and all the information you need.

Given that we are unable to meet in person, we have been gathering via Zoom to get some exercise to beautiful traditional Scandinavian music, and some “different” music we have been throwing in just for fun.  In each virtual session, we teach a dance that can be done without a partner.  Then during the open dancing part of the evening, we play some couple dance music so people can dance inside their “bubble” or just listen.

The tentative plan for the evening is as follows:

  1. 7:30 – 8:00 pm Pacific Time – Join In and Social Time
  2. 8:00 – 8:20 pm – Dance Teaching – BOOT SCOOTIN’ BOOGIE
  3. 8:20 – 8:50 pm – Recorded Music – dance along in your living room or just listen
  4. 8:50 – 9:10 pm – “Coffee Break” and Announcements
  5. 9:10 – 9:40 pm – Recorded Music and Last Waltz

“East Coast” Virtual Camp August 14 – 16, 2020

Happy Saturday, everyone!
After a really fun “West Coast” weekend, we’ve decided to do it again–with an East Coast twist. Join us for our second Virtual Camp on August 14-16, 2020. Our website will update with faculty and performers as they’re added, and you can register here. Read on for additional details!
__________
In 1977, the EEFC offered the first of many wonderful getaway Balkan Music & Dance Workshops. In 2020, we’re excited to roll with the punches and debut our online edition, which you can enjoy from the comfort of home.
Thanks to high-speed internet, we continue to welcome new friends and old to our community of musicians, singers, dancers, and those who love them. Beginners and advanced practitioners will continue to “rub shoulders” while benefiting from the expertise of our extraordinary teaching staff and enjoying bliss-inducing live-music performances. We can’t provide the traditional rustic redwoods setting nor a superb glamping experience in the Catskills, but this Virtual Camp weekend retains our signature style—an immersive learning experience that opens hearts and minds to the beauty of Balkan music, dance, and culture.

Armenian Dance Workshop with Gary and Susan Lind-Sinanian

See listing here on the FACONE website.

Armenian dance experts Susan and Gary Lind-Sinanian and the Folk Arts Center of New England present this week’s online event of the socially distanced era via Zoom, the popular teleconferencing platform.

Join Gary and Susan this Saturday, June 6, at 2:00pm EDT and again at 3:00pm EDT for two special online dance workshops, which will originate live from the Armenian Museum of America in Watertown Square, MA.

Gary and Susan have lectured and taught Armenian dances in America and internationally since 1978 and are known as “high context” teachers. Their workshops incorporate extensive background in Armenian history, culture, costume, and folklore related to the dances. As museum curators of the largest Armenian museum in the United States, they bring a broad background in many areas of Armenian culture to their workshops. They are particularly well known in the Armenian community for teaching dance and culture to youth and small children at Armenian schools, camps, and cultural festivals. More information about them here.

This is the eleventh in a series of online events featuring some of our favorite dance leaders, with the proceeds benefiting FAC.
