Madison Folk Dance Unlimited on Tuesdays

As of August 1, 2020, this group has stopped meeting because it is too hot and buggy outside.

Based in Madison, Wisconsin, our Tuesday Zoom dance parties feature beginning to intermediate dances. We dance from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. CDT. Not Zoom experts, but we do keep the program moving. Currently, just one leader is featured, but as we learn more about Zoom that can change. Those with the expertise are most welcome! We are small, but happy to grow with more people joining us each week. You are most welcome!
Weather permitting. We are an outdoor venue and encourage people to send me their email addresses in advance so I can let them know about cancellations? I do send out a reminder email on Sunday or Monday, and then an update if weather is uncooperative.

Armenian Dance Workshop with Gary and Susan Lind-Sinanian

See listing here on the FACONE website.

Armenian dance experts Susan and Gary Lind-Sinanian and the Folk Arts Center of New England present this week’s online event of the socially distanced era via Zoom, the popular teleconferencing platform.

Join Gary and Susan this Saturday, June 6, at 2:00pm EDT and again at 3:00pm EDT for two special online dance workshops, which will originate live from the Armenian Museum of America in Watertown Square, MA.

Gary and Susan have lectured and taught Armenian dances in America and internationally since 1978 and are known as “high context” teachers. Their workshops incorporate extensive background in Armenian history, culture, costume, and folklore related to the dances. As museum curators of the largest Armenian museum in the United States, they bring a broad background in many areas of Armenian culture to their workshops. They are particularly well known in the Armenian community for teaching dance and culture to youth and small children at Armenian schools, camps, and cultural festivals. More information about them here.

This is the eleventh in a series of online events featuring some of our favorite dance leaders, with the proceeds benefiting FAC.

Virtual Camp Orford May 30

Hello friends and friends of dance,

Our Orford last three camps were complemented by its dynamic presence and beautiful dances they taught us: Roberto Bagnoli (Orford 2017, Lachine 2018, Quebec in 2019); Sybil Helmer (Orford 2018); Wijnand Karel (Orford 2019). This year we will have the great pleasure to welcome them all three together in a virtual folkothèque to be held next Saturday and will serve Orford Camp 2020! Each of them will take some of their dances and a small team of our teachers Quebec will complement the guide while in others. This is an appointment to which we invite you:

at the following address: Zoom Link

NB: 1- to access, you will have downloaded the Zoom application on your computer, laptop, tablet or even smartphone.

Morristown Virtual dance party Wednesday May 20

Hi Folks!

There are a lot of folkdance parties on the web, via zoom.  I hope you’re taking advantage of them.

In case you’re free next Wednesday, I wanted to invite you to a dance party we’re hosting.  Randi and I host bimonthly parties on behalf of Morristown (NJ) FolkDancers.  We’re doing lots of old and new favorites.  Avoid getting rusty!

With help from our Calif friends, our sessions can now accommodate as many as want to join: INVITE YOUR FRIENDS to join our parties!

We’ve optimized our equipment setup, and I promise “great sound” (mostly).  If not, you get your money back!  You’ll see the dance names and upcoming dances all in the same screen.

Link: http://tinyurl.com/MFDparties

Day: Wednesday, May 20
Time: 7:30-10 PM EDT
Recommend joining 10-15 mins early.
Food: Bring a snack to eat (ok, in your own home)

REMINDERS:
– You may be prompted to download the Zoom software or an update.
– It might take 10-20 seconds for the Zoom window to start.
– You may see: Join Audio.  Do that.
– Choose “Speaker View” for most of the evening.
Because of the time required to set up, we recommend joining several mins early: we *start* dancing at 7:30!

Use the highest performance device you have […]

ONLINE Balkan Folk Dance Workshop with Steve Kotansky
First workshop: 2:00pm EDT
Second workshop: 3:00pm EDT

Here is the link to the Zoom page for Saturday’s workshop.

Steve Kotansky, known widely as a versatile dancer and teacher, has made many research trips to Bulgaria, the former Yugoslavia, Romania, Hungary, and Greece. He has taught at major folk dance camps all over North America and Europe and has performed and choreographed for many performing ensembles throughout the U.S. and Europe. Steve brings a lively, in-depth knowledge to his teaching, and an intense joy to his dancing.

Making a donation
Steve and our other leaders are donating their time and talent to bringing us together in dance every Saturday in May and early June. They are doing this as a fundraiser for the Folk Arts Center of New England, a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that was founded in 1975. The FAC mission is to promote the participation in the traditional folk arts of different countries, particularly music and dance. We are honored […]
