About the Party

FAC’s online Saturday afternoon workshop will be an all-live music dance party, hosted by Janet Yeracaris, with music by the Pixton Poirier Trio. Dances will be led by Boston-area dancers.

The trio consists of some of Boston’s favorite musicians, Tom Pixton, Barbara Pixton, and Julia Poirier. The trio recently spent a wonderful week at Mainewoods Dance Camp with teachers Tom Bozigian and Michael Ginsburg.

World Village Music & Dance Camp – Labor Day Zoom Event

Labor Day Zoom Event
Sunday, September 5th

Although the in-person camp canceled, you are invited to join the online Zoom event. Visit their website here.
The current schedule is:
  • 11am-12:25 pm: Brian Dolpin (Ukrainian singing)
  • 12:30pm-1:55 pm: Joe Graziosi (Greek dance)
  • 2-3:25 pm: Carl Linich (Georgian singing)
  • 3:30-5 pm: Steve Kotansky (Balkan dance)
  • 5-7:30 pm: dinner break.  We will keep the Zoom session live, so you can socialize
  • 7:30 pm: An evening dance party will start with some request dances, followed by a short Pontic set accompanied by Izumi Fairbanks.  At about 8:30, we will have review sessions with Joe and Steve, followed by more dancing to recorded music. Your requests are welcome!
Suze and Richie’s Balkan Bazaar will offer a selection of items for your shopping pleasure during the event, and there will be an opportunity for campers to visit with one another during the dinner hour.
They are asking for a suggested (but optional) donation of $25 or more, that will go to support our teachers and performers. Your registration allows access to any or all parts of the event.

Now that we are coming out of the Covid times, the Laguna International Dancers (LID) weekly schedule will be a little different:

About the Workshop

In her workshop on Saturday, Nina will present village dances from different ethnographic areas of Bulgaria, emphasizing the regional styles.

About Nina

Nina Kavardjikova was brought up in the folklore traditions of her mother’s family village in the Targovishte area of Northern Bulgaria, and began dancing and performing on stage at the age of 7. She later became a professional dancer and toured the world as a soloist with the Trakia State Folklore Ensemble (Plovdiv). In the years following her graduation with honors from the Academy of Music, Dance, and Fine Arts in Plovdiv, Nina has been a ballet master with Trakia State Folk Ensemble, had her own performing group Aegis, staged dances for many Bulgarian dance ensembles, and was a professor in Bulgarian Folklore and Dance at her alma mater.
